7 Tips for Cleaning a Commercial Coffee Machine Efficiently

From restaurant to cafes, a commercial coffee maker is essential in any large or small establishment. Inappropriately, hard water combined with regular usage can lead to high build-ups of minerals and scale in the machine that not only harm operation over time, but it can also affect the taste of the brewed coffee. 

For getting the best out of your coffee maker, you should do a thorough cleaning every five to six weeks depending on the water quality in the area. Here are some important commercial cleaning tips for the coffee machine:

  1. Mix the Cleaner with Water 
    Whether it’s white vinegar, lemon juice or critic acid, first mix it with distilled water for making a solution.For cutting down on acidic properties of the cleaning agents, use 1/3 of the cleaning agent with 2/3 of distilled water.
  2. Pour the Descaling Solution in the Machine
    After mixing the cleaner with water, pour your mixture into the machine’s water reservoir.
  3. Start a Brewing Cycle 
    Once the descaling solution is added in the water reservoir, turn on the coffee machine’s brewing cycle. The coffee machine will operate as if it’s brewing a pot of coffee but will be slowly removing lime and hard water deposits.
  4. Discard Fill Pot 
    After concluding the brewing cycle, dispose of the brewed cleaning solution.
  5. Remove the Spray Head
    After completing the cleaning process, turn the coffee maker off and unplug its power cord from the wall outlet and then remove the spray head from the machine.
  6. Thoroughly Clean the Spray Head and Opening 
    Use a soft bristle brush and warm water, for scrubbing the spray head to remove any residue and clogs and also wipe down the opening of the spray head.
  7. Perform Necessary Rinse Cycles 
    Again, plug the machine and pour a pot of warm water into the machine. After that, start a brew cycle for removing any unwanted odours or flavours from the cleaning solution. You need to repeat this process a few times depending on the acidity agent that you used.
